Every year in North Carolina, some 200 children die from accidental injuries and another 45,000 visit a doctor's office for treatment of such injuries. Housed within the N.C. Department of Insurance, Safe Kids North Carolina works to prevent these injuries in children 19 and under through education and outreach. There are 46 Safe Kids coalitions covering 71 counties in North Carolina. Elkin Fire Department is a member of Safe Kids Surry County.
National Fire Protection Association
Resource for Parents and Caregivers, Teachers, and Safety Professionals
We can all help make the world a safer place by learning more about how and why fires start. We offer dozens of consumer-friendly fact sheets on a wide range of timely and important topics - everything you need to know to keep you, your family, and your neighbors safe from fire and related hazards.
North Carolina Fire Sprinkler Coalition
Resource for Homeowners and Home Builders
Home Fire sprinklers can help make the home fire-safe and reduce property loss dramatically. A home fire sprinkler system is like having a firefighter on duty 24 hours a day. Each sprinkler is individually activated by heat. Only the sprinkler closest to the fire activates, keeping the fire small or extinguishing it completely. Residents have more time to escape while fire sprinklers limit the growth and spread of fire, heat and toxic smoke.
Resource for Parents and Caregivers
With so much information out there, it can be difficult for parents to figure out the best way to keep kids safe in the car and parents often wonder if they are making the right choice. When it comes to choosing a car seat for your child there is no single number – age, height, or weight – to determine the best option. Kids come in all shapes and sizes with different personalities and levels of maturity. What might make sense for one child may not be the best choice for another, even if they are the same age or size.
