Emergency Response

Elkin is a small but busy community, and we are proud to serve its citizens and visitors.  Our combination of dedicated volunteers and career staff members regularly go above and beyond the call of duty to render support and service to those in need.

During 2017, Elkin firefighters responded to 374 EMS Incidents and 322 Fire Incidents for a total of 696 Incidents. Mutual aid was given 25 times and received 32 times. Average Time On Scene was 25:07. 

Firefighters completed a total of 2,503.19 training hours during 2017. 

2017 Presentation of Awards:

Ted Brown Service Award - Presented to a member of EFD to show appreciation for their extended service to the department.

Community Service Award - Presented to a member of EFD for outstanding service to the community on or off duty, significantly above what is expected for an involved member of the department.

      Theresa Knops, Captain, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator

Officer of the Year - Presented to an officer whom has performed above and beyond the normal responsibility of the position.

      John Kuhlman, Lieutenant

Jack Elderton Award - Named in honor of EFD's first full-time firefighter and presented to a full-time or part-time firefighter whom has performed above and beyond the normal responsibility of the position.

      William Rountree - Lieutenant

Rookie Firefighter of the Year - Presented to an active volunteer firefighter whom is judged to be the most outstanding crew member.

      Jordan Berry, Firefighter C Company

Support Firefighter of the Year - Presented to an active volunteer firefighter whom is judged to be the most outstanding crew member.

      Tom Bauguess, Firefighter A Company

Suppression Firefighter of the Year - Presented to an active volunteer firefighter whom is judged to be the most outstanding crew member.
