Fire code enforcement

 By ordinance the Town of Elkin has entrusted the Elkin Fire Department with the responsibility of fire code enforcement throughout the town.  The provisions of the EFD’s code enforcement program include the following: 

• Issuance of mandatory permits
• Review of construction documents and plans for both new construction and building/system modifications
• Fire code compliance inspections on a periodic basis
• Fire scene investigation
• Enforcement of occupancy load limits
• Issuance of violations and related penalties
• Issuance of orders to evacuate unsafe buildings, to abate unsafe conditions, to stop work, or to disconnect service utilities
• Maintenance of required records
